PICTURE ZERO AT THE 2023 BAFTA ALBERT SUMMIT

11/2023

Updates

The Picture Zero team recently attended the 2023 Bafta albert Summit held in Cardiff. It was an inspiring day, driven by a shared desire to transition the film and TV industries to a more sustainable future. There was lots of very useful information to take in and some fantastic suggestions made for positive action.

Our very own Steve Smith was also part of a team launching the Screen New Deal: Transformation Plan for Wales report at the summit. Steve served as Project Manager for the report which sets out a path to a sustainable future for the film and high-end television industries and covers the changes to transport, energy use, waste and culture needed to meet net zero targets, distilling these actions into a clear timeline. The series of key recommendations for production teams, commissioners, broadcasters and funding bodies was produced by Arup and BAFTA albert, supported by the BFI through its National Lottery Research and Statistics Fund. You can read the full report here.

Steve also hosted a fantastic panel at the event looking at how our industry can build more sustainable studio infrastructure and integrate effective circular economy models into its working practices. You can watch the panel below:

Well done to Steve and everyone else involved for all their hard work on the report, and thank you very much to Bafta albert for a very interesting and inspiring day.
