Waste Bin-go!
Sort every item into the right bin. One wrong item can contaminate the entire load โ sending it to landfill.
Waste-to-Energy
Waste sent to a Waste-to-Energy facility is burned at very high temperatures to generate electricity. This is a last resort for items that can't be recycled or composted โ the heat produces steam that drives turbines, recovering energy that would otherwise be lost to landfill. Ash residue is a tiny fraction of the original volume and is safely disposed of.
Mixed Recycling
Mixed recycling is collected and taken to a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) where paper, card, plastics, cans and cartons are sorted by machines and by hand. Each material is baled and sold to reprocessors who melt or pulp them into new raw materials โ ready to become new bottles, tins, paper and packaging.
Compostable
Compostable waste is processed through anaerobic digestion โ microbes break down organic material in sealed tanks without oxygen, producing two valuable outputs: biogas, which is used to generate renewable energy, and digestate, a nutrient-rich substance returned to agricultural land as a natural fertiliser.
